In line with a form of conceptual art that pays close attention to the contexts of presentation of the work of art, Katharina Monka's interest lies both in the conditions of her own reception and its functioning as a monstration device.

«You enter the exposition of a space where what happens is being exhibited ». This description by René Denizot of an installation by Daniel Buren called "une enveloppe peut en cacher une autre" ("an envelope might be concealing another one") also fully situates the stake of the device imagined by Katharina Monka for the Studio. It revolves around a film made during her previous exhibition in Munster. In it, the presentation of her work takes on a ritual characteristic with the involvement of her German gallery owner. Here, his role as an intermediary ensuring the encounter of the public with the work is meticulously choreographed in all its comings and goings. The whiteness of the white cube and its singular acoustics pertain to a cold, almost clinical aesthetic in which this implementation of the show suddenly arise with a lot of force. Katharina Monka presents it to us as the relentless negotiation of a vital point of balance between void and fullness, animate and inanimate, body and object, manifest and concealed. In this respect, the spectator becomes an actor and an essential activator. In fact, the sculptures that are exhibited there become mixed up with the furniture that is intended to modulate its behaviour. The presence of bodies is also conveyed through their unfinished aspect; the subtle plastic choices assign them a façade and a back. The living contaminates them like those plants escaping a low coffee table and standing next to a white cube decorated with screws the inside parts of which show the impact of perforation.

In this exhibition that relies on a formal trick of reflections and mises-en- abîme, it is a whole dialogue between body and space that is embodied with humour. A humour that subverts the game of appearances, perforates surfaces, displays the processes that humanise objects, surprise and attempt a singular encounter with visitors.
